Aircraft Features

The Cessna Citation CJ4 is the newest aircraft in the Cessna family, setting higher standards for small aircraft.

The senior business jet of the CJ range has become even more versatile - cruise speed, range, cabin and luggage space have been increased.  

For the CJ4, the designers designed a brand new wing and Williams International, the powerplant manufacturer for the entire CJ family, developed a new version of the FJ44-4A engine with 1,642 kgf of thrust. The combination of the new wing and extra power brought the cruising speed up to 835 km/h, finally turning the perception of the CJs as good-looking but slow-moving aircraft upside down. 

The CJ4 was the first narrowbody Cessna with a swept wing (12.5 degrees on a quarter chord). The wing area is 30.7 m2. Aerodynamic characteristics when flying at high speeds are no less impressive.

Maximum operating speed has been increased to 0.77M, which is almost unbeatable compared to 0.78M for the Phenom 300 and 0.81M for the Learjet. But for routine operation it is more valuable that the speed at which the aerodynamic drag begins to grow exponentially due to the appearance of compaction jumps is significantly higher than the maximum allowable and this ensures efficient operation at high cruising speeds. It is worth noting that all range figures at maximum cruising speed (including 3700 km with reserve fuel supply) are given by the manufacturer based on the presence of five passengers and two crew members on board. Reducing the speed increases the range by slightly more than 8%.

The T-shaped tail is borrowed from the CJ3. Its keel has a longer chord to improve controllability, and the stabilizer size is increased to improve longitudinal stability, which is important for practical reasons given the high cruising speeds of the CJ4.

Interior and cabin

Thanks to the longest cabin in the CJ range, more passengers can be accommodated here, but the most comfortable is the six-seat option. The space at the front of the aisle, which in some layouts is occupied by a small sofa, can be used both for its direct purpose and (in some cases with greater benefit) for storage of necessities, such as briefcases or outerwear.
